Renae Valdes
Renae Valdes is a remarkable humanitarian, entrepreneur, and philanthropist whose life’s mission is rooted in promoting human welfare and honoring her deep connections to the military. Raised in a family of nine children with strong military ties spanning generations, Renae grew up with values of service, resilience, and compassion. Many of her relatives, including her grandfather, cousins, and uncles, served in the armed forces, instilling in her a deep respect for those who dedicate their lives to protecting others.
The devastating loss of her husband, Christopher, an Army veteran, after 16 years of marriage was a pivotal moment that reshaped her life. Faced with overwhelming grief, Renae embarked on a transformative journey of self-discovery and healing. Immersing herself in the traditions of her indigenous ancestors, she discovered her natural gift for holistic healing, a revelation that inspired her to start her first business dedicated to helping others find peace and wellness.
In 2024, Renae’s entrepreneurial journey took a unique turn when she acquired Mafia Tattoo and Piercing under special circumstances. Balancing two businesses was a daunting challenge, but her dedication, work ethic, and unique abilities helped her persevere. Today, both her holistic healing practice and Mafia Tattoo and Piercing are thriving enterprises.
Driven by her deep connections to the military and her personal experiences, Renae has always felt compelled to give back to veterans. Her passion led to a partnership with the 1/9 Association, sparked through conversations with Cory Severson, Board Member and Treasurer of 1/9. This collaboration culminated in a successful fundraising event celebrating the appointment of the first local First Battalion Ninth Marines in the association’s history. Renae and her team’s unwavering support throughout the event was instrumental in its success.
Reflecting on the experience, Renae stated, “My tattoo shop employees were 100% on board and excited about the opportunity to give back. The event was filled with so many unknowns, and I had some anxiety worrying about community support, but also felt through the planning process the spirit of my husband, father, and grandfather close to me. They were my motivation, my desire to make them proud, and to be an example to my children of what honoring our ancestors, our veterans, and our country looks like.”
Renae hopes her contributions, however small they may seem, can make a difference. She looks forward to continuing her work with the First Battalion Ninth Marines to grow their efforts, raise awareness about the organization, and honor those who have served. Her dedication to “The Walking Dead” is deeply appreciated by the association, which recognizes her unwavering commitment to its members.
Renae Valdes continues to honor her loved ones’ legacies through her work, living proof of resilience, compassion, and a genuine desire to give back to her community. We dedicate the Odyssey Scholarship in her name.
