General Scholarship Requirements
Application Deadline for 2025
Applications must be submitted by June 30, 2025.

Must be a high school senior, current college student, or enrolled in a qualifying vocational program.
Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Must have a direct connection to the 1st Battalion 9th Marines, including:
Veterans and active-duty members
Direct descendants (children, grandchildren)
Spouses of veterans or active-duty members
Applicants with a significant connection to the 1/9 through community involvement or advocacy.

Completed Application Form: Fully completed and signed.
Academic Records: Official high school or college transcripts.
Personal Statement (500-750 words): Describe your connection to the 1/9, your educational and career goals, and how this scholarship will help you achieve them.
Letters of Recommendation (2): Two letters from non-family members, such as teachers, employers, community leaders, or mentors who can speak to your character, achievements, and potential.
Community Involvement: A brief overview (300-500 words) of your community service and involvement, including specific activities, leadership experiences, and the impact of your efforts.
Financial Need (Optional): A statement detailing financial need, including any special circumstances, if applicable.

Applications will be evaluated based on the following:
Connection to 1st Battalion 9th Marines (20%) – Strength and significance of the applicant’s connection to the battalion.
Academic Achievement (20%) – Cumulative GPA and rigor of coursework.
Personal Statement (20%) – Clarity of educational and career goals, personal growth, and how the scholarship will contribute to achieving these goals.
Letters of Recommendation (15%) – Strength of character, leadership qualities, and community involvement.
Community Involvement (15%) – Impact of your contributions and commitment to your community.

Multiple scholarships may be awarded, depending on available funding.
Scholarship amounts vary based on financial need, academic achievement, and the overall strength of the application.
Recipients will be notified by July 15th, and awards will be disbursed directly to the educational institution by July 30th.
