Titan Scholarship
Award Amount: $500 - $5,000
This scholarship honors Roger Liggon, a Marine veteran and successful business leader who founded the 1st Battalion 9th Marines Association. It supports students pursuing business, finance, marketing, or economics who demonstrate leadership, entrepreneurial spirit, and a drive for innovation.

New Horizon Scholarship
Award Amount: $500 - $5,000
This scholarship honors the legacy of Lt. Gen. William M. Keys (Ret. USMC), a founding member of the 1/9 Association. The New Horizon Scholarship is designed for bold thinkers, risk-takers, and self-starters—students who refuse to be confined by traditional career paths. This scholarship supports individuals pursuing unconventional fields of study, those who challenge norms, explore uncharted territories, and push the boundaries of what is possible.

Pioneer Scholarship
Award Amount: $500 - $5,000
This scholarship honors Lance Cpl. Jordan C. Haerter, a courageous Marine whose final act of bravery saved countless lives. It supports students pursuing degrees in environmental science, sustainability, or related fields, with a passion for conservation, innovation, and making a lasting impact on the world.

Target Scholarship
Award Amount: $500 - $5,000
This scholarship honors Woodrow "Woody" W. Postle, Jr., a dedicated Marine, family man, and community leader known for his resilience and commitment to service. It supports students pursuing vocational training, technical education, or industry-specific certifications, with a focus on hands-on learning, career development, and specialized skills.

Odyssey Scholarship
Award Amount: $500 - $5,000
This scholarship honors Renae Valdes, a humanitarian, entrepreneur, and philanthropist whose journey has been defined by service, resilience, and a deep commitment to veterans and community. The Odyssey Scholarship is awarded to students dedicated to making a difference in their communities and contributing to humanitarian efforts. This scholarship supports individuals who strive to address social challenges, advocate for positive change, and improve the well-being of others.

New Day Scholarship
Award Amount: $500 - $5,000
This scholarship honors Cpl. Jonathan Tyler Yale, a courageous Marine whose final act of bravery saved countless lives. It supports students with a passion for leadership, service, and making a lasting impact, encouraging them to carry forward his legacy of courage, commitment, and selflessness.
Application Process

1. Prepare your application
Review the guidelines to ensure you meet the basic eligibility requirements, including GPA, connection to the 1st Battalion 9th Marines, and required documentation. Gather all necessary materials, like transcripts, personal statements, proof of connection, and letters of recommendation.

2. Submit your application
Complete the online application form and upload all required documents through the scholarship portal. Make sure everything is accurate and complete before hitting submit.

3. Review and Award
Once submitted, your application will be carefully reviewed by our selection committee. Recipients will be notified by May 15th, and scholarship funds will be disbursed directly to the educational institution by May 30th.

2024 Scholarship Recipient
A history major at the University of Northern Iowa, inspired by a family legacy including a 1/9 Vietnam veteran grandfather and a WWII great-grandfather. His studies honor their service and sacrifice. -

A student at Penn State’s Smeal College of Business, inspired by his 1/9 veteran grandfather. Drawn to leadership through sports, Charles aims to become a sports contract lawyer or entrepreneur. -
Ryan Stillman

Studying Public Health and Psychology at Western Connecticut State, inspired by his 1/9 veteran grandfather. Ryan plans to become a school counselor and coach, helping students thrive and honoring his grandfather’s legacy. -
Libby Wild

Pursuing Integrated Marketing at York College of Pennsylvania, inspired by her late brother, a 1/9 Marine. Libby’s work honors his legacy through meaningful communication and a drive to make him proud. -
Nadia Binford

Entering her second year at West Virginia University, granddaughter of 1/9 Corpsman Charles D. Evans. Guided by his values, Nadia is driven to make a meaningful impact through her studies and future work. -
Michael Holden
2023 Scholarship Recipient
Studying Business with a focus on Management at the University of Oregon, Michael is the son of Hugh Holden, a 1/9 Corpsman with Bravo Company. He’s proud to carry forward that legacy. -
Brian Garon
2023 Scholarship Recipient
A 1/9 veteran (2012–2014) and Lifetime Member, Brian Garon attends College of the Canyons. He brings the same discipline and commitment from his service to his education and future goals.
